CrossFire is a changing

Our current agreement for CrossFire access to the Beilstein and Gmelin databases finishes on 31st October.

We are renewing the subscription, however the renewal coincides with the launch of the new CrossFire Service at MIMAS, so this is the service we will be using from 1st November. The new service will allow us to use IP recognition rather than having to login using an Athens username and password.

In order to continue using CrossFire after 31st you need to modify the settings in the software installed on your computer. To this follow steps below:
  1. Open CrossFire Commander - go to Options on menu bar
  2. Within Options go to Define Server Profiles and then select Edit
  3. Change server address from crossfire.mmc.ac.uk to xfire.mimas.ac.uk - also ensure the boxes to 'Forget user id/password' are ticked
  4. Close the profile.
  5. Close CrossFire Commander.
  6. Reopen CrossFire Commander.
  7. Enter following username xfire and password mimas (both lowercase) and tick the box to 'Save userid and password'.
  8. When you subsequently access CrossFire you will not be asked to login.

The new server is already up and running (currently labelled Test server), so you can make these changes any time before 1st November.

Any problems please call Patti on 2380 or email pbiggs.
