Update: PDF Printing bug

I have had a reply from ScienceDirect acknowledging the problem with printing their PDFs using Acrobat.

The recent redesign of the ScienceDirect site elongated their PDF address URLs to around 266 characters, which is why the problem has become more evident and frequent.

Long URLs (in excess of 261 characters) are acknowledged to conflict with Acrobat 6 by Adobe. Adobe had applied a bug fix to Acrobat 6 (Acrobat 6.0.1) to resolve this issue, but it has not carried over to the newer version (Acrobat 7). ScienceDirect have reported this bug recurrence to Adobe as it affects all their customers.

As we don't know how much priority the bug fix will get at Adobe (as Acrobat 8 is due for release soon), ScienceDirect has decided to apply a fix to its website that will shorten URLs to ones Acrobat can handle. This fix should be implemented by the end of the month.

I am still interested in hearing if anyone has problems printing PDFs from non-ScienceDirect hosted journals, so please email or call the library if you experience this bug.
